Jewish-Hindu Leadership Summits, in 2007 in India and in 2008 in Israel, concluded with a landmark declaration that Hindus worship ‘One Supreme Being’ and are not idolatrous.
For a thousand years and more, our rabbis have assumed that Hinduism is avodah zarah, or “idolatry.”
But in 2007 and again in 2008, a delegation from the Chief Rabbinate of Israel met with India’s leading Hindu swamis. And they agreed they worship the same G-d.
This talk will trace the development of Jewish thinking about Hinduism.
